Robert Omondi, the husband of a 28-year-old woman who lost her life due to alleged negligence while delivering twins at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, appeared before the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday, November 1, to give an account of what transpired.

Omondi told the committee chaired by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago that Maureen Anyango died after being neglected after giving birth through caesarian section.

He broke down severally as he recounted the last words of his wife telling him to take care of the kids.

"Babe, please give the babies nun," he recalled the words of his wife telling him to feed the babies.

Maureen delivered twins at the facility on Tuesday, September 6. It's alleged that the woman passed on after excessive bleeding.

According to Omondi, the wife started bleeding profusely after delivering the bouncing babies.

When he realised that the wife was soaked in blood, Omondi reported to the nurses on duty but they were quick to dismiss him that they were attending to other patients, endangering the life of the mother.

It took the intervention of other patients at the facility to get the nurses to attend to the woman.

It later emerged that the mother was suffering from severe bleeding after childbirth, medically known as post-partum haemorrhage (PPH).

Maureen was later transferred to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She, unfortunately, died on Wednesday at around 7:00 am.

The Senate is seeking to establish if there was negligence on the part of the medical officers at Mama Lucy Kibaki as claimed by the family.
