Residents of Karuugiro village in Mathioya, Murang'a are reeling in shock after a man hacked his wife to death Tuesday afternoon July 19, 2022.

The suspect identified as Wahome Waiti is said to be on the run after committing the heinous act.

According to the residents, the deceased and her husband had separated a few months ago but he called her back for them to have a dialogue.

Ann Waruguru one of the witnesses said the couple had separated three months ago but the man went for her for them to reconcile.

"The man lured his wife to the death trap because he killed him in their house hours after she came back before running away," she said.

"Their marriage has been turbulent but we never expected the man to do such thing to the mother of his children "she added.

Mary Njeri another resident claimed that the mother of the suspect helped him escape as she covered up for him.

Njeri, who revealed the deceased and her husband had five children, urged authorities to get them to a safe place where they can be safe.
