35-year-old man burnt beyond recognition in Kiambu

A 35-year-old man in Kikuyu area of Kiambu was burnt beyond recognition on Saturday, September 10, 2022 evening after a fire broke in his house while he was asleep.

According to police, the deceased identified as Michael Ngugi who lived alone arrived home while appearing drunk and went to sleep.

It was later that fire broke out and attempts to put it off proved futile.

"35-year-old Ngugi is reported to have got back to his home while appearing drunk and went to sleep. The fire broke out in his house and attempts to put it off were futile where he got burnt inside beyond recognition," the police report stated.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a candle.

The body was moved to PCEA Kikuyu morgue awaiting an autopsy.

In a separate incident, property of unknown value was razed down by fire on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Sonic area of Githurai after an electric transformer blew up into flames.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, after the transformer blew up, the iron makeshift business premise owned by a Mercy Muthoni caught the fire which spread subsequently and burnt 14 more iron sheet makeshifts hosting church furniture shops, charcoal shops, eateries, electronic shops and all the other kind of businesses around.

Officers arrived at the scene and together with the help of members of the public, they called two Nairobi Metropolitan Services fire engines that put off the fire.

"Property of unknown value was razed down by inferno at around 9:30 pm on Sunday. The destroyed property was iron sheet make shifts for different businesses including eateries, electronic shops, and others. Police arrived at the scene and together with members of the public, two NMS fire engines were and the fire was managed and put off,” the police report read in part.

No casualties or fatalities were reported during the incident.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that there might have been an electric fault that led to the blowing of the transformer.
