A 20-year-old man from Baringo was on Friday arrested for cultivating and owning the outlawed bhang.

Festus Sirma who was ambushed by police officers from Kabarnet police station at around 10 PM after he was reported to the authorities, was found in possession of 8 plastic containers which contained the banned plant.

While confirming the incident, the area Chief Wilson Kapkwang revealed that the man during the raid, the police officers further ransacked his house finding one gunny bag which had dried leaves of the illegal plant worth approximately Ksh100, 000.

“During the raid, Sirma was found in possession of the outlawed plant, some were kept in 8 plastic containers outside his house, the officers who also ransacked his house later found one gunny bag which had dried leaves worth approximately Ksh100, 000 on the table which was ready for sale,” the administrator said.

He warned the residents against owning such illegal plants or using them urging locals to continue exposing drug dealers. He said the drug dealers were ruining the young generation and wasting away the youths by selling the item to them.

Kapkwang noted that youths should be engaging in legal businesses and other agricultural activities rather than involving themselves in prohibited items which will only ruin their productivity and is also a threat to one’s health.
