A middle-aged man in Nairobi is cooling his heels in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court after physically assaulting his wife, who later succumbed to her injuries.

Police say Robert Muoki Kioko physically assaulted his wife moments after arriving home from a drinking spree.

"A fight ensued between 37-year-old Robert Muoki Kioko and his 23-year-old wife faith Jepleting after he went home from a drinking spree and started beating her," the police report read in part.

The deceased, whose body was moved to the City mortuary awaiting an autopsy, had a swollen head and visible bruise marks.

The incident comes barely a day after a Police constable was arrested for allegedly shooting a reveller in Mukuru Kwa Reuben slums.

In the incident on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the suspect is said to have shot a girl in the thigh following a disagreement with a reveller.

"While at Spark's pub in Mukuru Kwa Reuben with other levers, constable Asika came and joined us while armed with a rifle and in full uniform. A disagreement emerged over a lady where the officer shot her in the right thigh," Maina Cyrus, a resident of Reuben slums, told the police.

The officer was arrested and disarmed the AK-47 rifle, loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
