Man arraigned for defiling minor in Kisumu

A middle-aged man has been arraigned before a Kisumu court and charged with defilement of a minor.

Newton Omondi Ochieng appeared before Winam law court's Resident Magistrate Robert Oanda.

He was charged with defilement contrary to Section 8 (2) of the Sexual Offences Act No3 of 2006.

The court heard that on February 28, 2022 at Obwolo area, Kajulu West Location in Kisumu East Sub-county within Kisumu county, he intentionally defiled the minor.

In an alternative charge, he was accused of commiting an indecent act contrary to Section 11 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh200,000.

"I, therefore, direct that you be supplied with the witness's statements and any other documents related to this matter," the magistrate stated.

According to the charge sheet, the prosecution has lined up six witnesses to testify before court.

The case will be mentioned on March 17 and heard on April 19.
