Man accused of defiling 13-year-old girl released on Ksh300K bond

A man accused of defiling a 13-year-old girl in Baringo has pleaded not guilty to the charges at Kabarnet Law Court on Monday, June 26, 2023.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Edwin Mulochi, the accused, Justine Ruto, denied the charges pressed against him in court.

He was released on a bond of Ksh300,000.

"The accused may be released on a bond of Ksh300,000 with a surety of a similar amount," said the magistrate.

Ruto is alleged to have defiled a 13-year-old girl contrary to the law, on June 18, 2023, at around 7 pm at his home in Bartum location, Baringo North.

The accused was charged with defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offence Act No.3 of 2006.

Ruto was also presented with an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

The prosecution has also lined up five witnesses to testify before the court.

The case will be mentioned on July 6, 2023, and will be heard on July 19, 2023.
