Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), homicide unit on Saturday, October 16 retrieved a CCTV footage from the house of the slain athlete Agnes Tirop in Elgeyo Marakwet.

A sleuth who was amongst those that were deployed to the home of the late Olympic star, said that the video would play a key role in the ongoing investigations.

“The video is vital as it reveals the last moments of the lady before she died and is a boost to the ongoing investigations,” the sleuth who spoke to the media in confidence said.

The officers however, refused to share the footage with the media.

The athlete was found dead at their home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet on Wednesday October 13. Detectives have since arrested her husband Ibrahim Rotich, in connection to the gruesome murder.

Tirop’s family told the media that the couple had an on-and-off relationship and that they had just agreed to get back together when the man ended her life.

Police say that the deceased was stabbed severally on her abdomen before she bled to death.

Immediately after the incident, the suspect fled to Changamwe in Mombasa County and was planning to flee to a neighboring country.

“The suspect is currently being grilled by detectives at Changamwe police station, for more details into the murder before being arraigned to answer to murder charges,” DCI boss George Kinoti said in a statement after the arrest.

The suspect who has already confessed to have ended the life of the 25-year-old athlete and even sought for forgiveness will be arraigned in court on Monday October 18.
