A section of prisoners at Kisumu medium prison has been forced to walk in tattered clothes.

They claim this, has been caused by a lack of new uniforms.

One prisoner whose identity we have withheld disclosed to K24 Digital that he is now suffering from chest pains since all his prison uniforms are torn and he also lacks a sweater to protect him during the cold seasons.

"I have complained severally to the officer in charge but all my pleas have fallen on deaf ears," he said.

He added that he suffers most at dawn since the cold is unbearable.

Another prisoner said he has been in the same uniform since being remanded at the facility more than a year ago.

He added that they are not being given soap to wash their clothes and only resort to washing without soap.

"Whenever I want to wash my clothes, I am always being forced to borrow a friend who has two pairs of uniforms since one is torn beyond repair," he said.

He claims that his friend who helps him out with his spare uniform only gives him the torn one and not the other new one.

He pleaded with the government to come to their aid and provide them with new uniforms and sweaters.

"I know we are law-breakers but I am pleading with the police service not to abandon us and at least give us new decent clothes so that we feel that at least we are home. With these torn clothes, we just look like abandoned children," he said.
