Police in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County are detaining their colleague after he was arrested by residents for allegedly demanding bribes from business people in the area.

Traders from the market claimed that Nathan Wangui Ndirangu, an officer attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil has been demanding Ksh2000 from them for purportedly working past curfew hours.

“He was arrested today by members of the public at Kagumo market while demanding money by a menace from shop owners claiming they had opened their businesses beyond curfew hours,” a police report read in part.

Police officers claim that at the time of his arrest, the suspect was intoxicated and did not have any money he allegedly took from the traders.
