Police in Kericho County have launched a manhunt for a bodyguard attached to a governor’s security detail who is on the run after reportedly killing a member of his family.

According to Silas Gichunge who is the Kericho County Police boss, officers have since been dispatched to arrest the suspect.

Gichunge said that the bodyguard and a prison warder are the main suspects in the murder of one Leonard Kipyegon.

“The bodyguard was in the company of the warden and are both accused of beating their kin whom they accused of stealing a beehive,” he said.

The incident happened on December 3 at around 7:00 pm when the bodyguard picked the deceased and his friend identified as Emmanuel Kiprotich.

He frog matched them to his compound where they jointly assaulted the duo.

“I walked into the compound and heard the duo crying in pain. I watched as he died,” John Yegon who is Kipyegon's uncle said.

The other victim, Kiprotich, is currently admitted at Kericho County Referral Hospital.

The family is now demanding justice. “They could have sought other methods to deal with the matter instead of assaulting and killing their own kin,” he said.

According to him, police should do all it takes to ensure that both the governor’s bodyguard and Kipyegon are brought to book.
