King Charles just praised the bravery of his "beloved daughter-in-law" Catherine, the Princess of Wales, who tonight (22 March 2024) posted a video to social media explaining that sadly she has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy after major abdominal surgery found "cancer had been present".

Currently, as the Princess is still in treatment, she – like her father-in-law – won't yet have been told that she is cancer-free.

The King shared his own diagnosis of cancer earlier this year, which was also found whilst he was undergoing an operation for something else – an enlarged prostate.

In a new statement issued via the Palace, Charles said that he and Queen Camilla "will continue to offer their love and support to their whole family during this difficult time".

Adding to that, the King that said he is "so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did" and that he remains in the "closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law".

In her video, Kate said that it has been "an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I've had a fantastic medical team".

She then went on to explain: "In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

"My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I'm now in the early stages of that treatment."

The Princess added that privacy is essential for her during this tough time – for both and her children's sake. "William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment, but most importantly it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate and to reassure them that I'm going to be okay."

As for her prognosis, Kate also shared, "As I've said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focussing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirit."

Our thoughts are with both Kate and Charles as they undergo their treatments.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are no longer thought to be appearing with the Royal Family on Easter Sunday, nor is there an official date for Kate to return to her duties.
