Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero is among 224 candidates who have been shortlisted for Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) positions by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

PSC on Monday, February 20, 2023, released a list of the shortlisted candidates who will be contesting for the CAS positions.

The move came after Employment and Labour Relations Court declared the establishment of the office of CAS as constitutional.

Justice Monicah Mbaru ruled that the decision of the PSC to create the position is lawful.

The exercise was halted in October 2022 after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) sued PSC arguing that the position was created without public participation.

The society also argued that the existence of the office would cause financial strain on the country.

The court, however, dismissed the petition filed by the LSK challenging the establishment of the CAS position in the public service for lack of merit.

The decision by the judge now paves way for the PSC to proceed with plans of inviting applicants for the job vacancies.

PSC on Monday shortlisted 224 candidates for CAS positions. Eight former governors made the cut and will be interviewed by the PSC from March 1.

Kidero, who is the most prominent of the eight former governors, was elected into office in 2013 and served as Nairobi's first governor before losing the position to Mike Sonko in 2017.

In the August 9, 2022 polls, Kidero also tried his luck in Homa Bay and lost to Gladys Wanga. He challenged the results in Court.
