Naivasha-based Keroche Breweries Ltd has launched a new beer brand, KB lager with 70 per cent of locally produced sorghum and barley.

The brand is the third for the company which produces Summit Lager and Summit Malt and is ranked as second in the country in beer production.

Speaking during the launch in Naivasha, Keroche Chief Executive Officer Tabitha Karanja said the new beer is sugar free and has been produced from sorghum and barley.

She said the products were locally sourced, adding that this would go along way in supporting local farmers

“We promised to launch more products and finally we have come up with a unique beet that is using 70 per cent locally grown cereal and 30 per cent malted barley,” Karanja added.

She said that the move to use the local raw material would be a big boost to farmers, adding that the brewer would support the growers in their production.

International standards

“We will support farmers to continue growing cereals that meet international standards and suitable for beer brewing,” she added.

Karanja termed KB lager as specially crafted using the state-of-the-art technology and traditional processes that guarantee customers full satisfaction.

“This beer is naturally brewed, has no hangover, zero sugar and has been brewed using the best standards in the country,” she said.

She added that the introduction of the beer would see 400 jobs created directly and thousands of others indirectly through distribution network.

“Our introductory prices for KB lager is Sh120 per bottle which is pocket friendly and we urge our bar owners to maintain the price,” said Karanja.

She called on the government to support local farmers to achieve the innovation necessary to grow the economy through agribusiness.

Currently, Keroche Breweries has the capacity to produce 600,000 beer bottles per day and also produces an array of spirits.
