Kenya has exported another batch of anchovies locally known as 'Omena' to China.
This comes as part of the bilateral agreement signed between Kenya and China in January last year. The agreement is aimed at promoting bilateral trade and boosting export trade.
In a statement, Wu Peng, who is the Director-General, of the Department of African Affairs, MFA, China noted that Kenya had shipped 52 tonnes of Omena to their country.
While confirming the announcement, Peng stated that the move benefits citizens of both countries.

The exportation of dried anchovies to China began in June with 315 kg. At the time, the consignment was flagged off by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya.
According to Mvurya, the first export consignment of the silver-like fish was dispatched from Huawen Food Kenya Ltd.- a Chinese company which has established a factory for processing, drying and repackaging omena purchased from local fishermen before shipping to China.
βThe Huawen Food Kenya Ltd a seafood exporting company is a plus to the economy of Kwale in particular and Kenya at large. It has created employment for our people,β Mvurya said.
