A survey conducted by market research company TIFA has painted a grim picture of the performance of President William Ruto's government.
TIFA on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, released the report of the survey that was conducted between June 24, 2023, and June 30, 2023, by means of Computer-Assisted-Telephonic-Interviews (CATI) with some 1,530 respondents.
The survey covered views about the country’s direction and the performance of the Kenya Kwanza government since it took over the reins of power 10 months ago.

According to TIFA, a significant number of Kenyans (56%) believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction.
The proportions of those perceiving the country’s direction as 'right' vs. 'wrong' have been reversed since March, when a plurality held to the former view (37% vs. 25%), whereas as of June the latter view was most prominent (56% vs. 48%).
Data collection for the survey was concluded before various provisions of the new Budget took effect.
Among the minority who consider the country’s current direction as positive (25%), there is little agreement on their reasons, with a small plurality (24%) citing the leadership of the Ruto government as the main reason for their positivity.
Irrespective of their political affiliations, the vast majority of Kenyans who perceive the country's current direction as wrong cited the ever-increasing cost of living.
Overall, Kenyans who participated in TIFA's research gave Ruto a C+ score based on their feelings about the president fulfilling his campaign promises.
