The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Garissa-Daadab (A3) Road at Saretho Town which is 30 kilometres from Daadab Town and 60 kilometres from Modika Town.

The closure follows the floods in the area, which have left the road submerged in water, rendering it impassable.

"This has been occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains that has led to flooding water crossing the A3 Road extensively eroding the existing road edges and the murram at the approaches to culverts hence making it very dangerous for road users," KeNHA stated.

As a result of heavy rains being experienced in several parts of the country, the public has been advised to avoid travelling at night, driving on off-road pathways and driving in moving sheet water to avoid potential accidents and injuries.

"The Authority, led by the North Eastern Region engineers and inspectors are on site working round the clock to ensure restoration of transport," KeNHA stated.

"The public is urged to be patient as the water subsides and any reinstatement works carried out to ensure traffic movement within the affected section resumes."

KeNHA advisory on Chemilil-Muhoroni Road

Earlier today, KeNHA issued an advisory to motorists plying along the Chemelil-Muhoroni Road.

In a statement, the highway authority noted that a portion of the road had been rendered impassable due to a heavy downpour.

The authority advised motorists to use alternative routes and assured them that the authority was working diligently to restore normalcy on the road

"A portion of the Chemelil - Muhoroni Road, located 2.5 kilometres from Chemelil, has been rendered impassable due to heavy rainfall from last night. This has disrupted traffic between Chemelil and Muhoroni. The Authority is diligently working to restore normalcy," the authority said.

Those heading to Muhoroni from Chemelil have been advised to use the Chemelil-Awasi-Kipsitet-Muhoroni route whereas those heading to Chemelil from Muhoroni have been asked to use the Muhoroni- Kipsitet- Awasi- Chemelil route.
