Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua celebrated International Women's Day with a special message to ladies on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

In a tweet, the lawyer-cum politician, famously known as Kenya's 'Iron Lady', lauded the women as 'heroines of toil' in the society.

She wished all the women across the globe more blessings in their course to "liberate the world".

"I salute all Women, the heroines of toil in our families, communities, Nations and the world. Bless women as we March to liberate the world," Karua said in a tweet.

International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

On this day the world celebrates women's achievements while calling out inequality in society.

President William Ruto also joined the world in celebrating the special day.

In a statement, the Head of State said he is proud of the progress Kenya has made in raising the socioeconomic and political inclusion of local women towards full equality.

"We stand ready to do our part in full and will not stop until we fulfil this critical commitment," the President said.

"This is the reason why I have engaged parliamentary leadership in the spirit of bipartisan patriotic collective action to explore a viable constitutional path to promote equality and inclusion in political representation.

"We also commit to removing systemic barriers and staying the course towards equity for all in Kenya confident that the full participation of women can help us realise the missing half of our country's national product. Happy Women’s Day."
