A 27-year-old woman from Kitengela, Kajiado County is on the run from her marriage after her husband alledged attempted to force her to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM).

Suzan Nyambura, a mother of three and is currently six months pregnant, claims she was forced to run away from her matrimonial home after a botched attempt by her husband to force her to undergo the cut.

Nyambura is currently being housed at a single room rental house at Kyangombe area of Kitengela by a well-wisher.

She claims her husband of nine years has remained adamant she must choose between FGM and her marriage.

According to Nyambura, trouble began last year when she refused to have her first born eight-year-old daughter undergo the cut.

She claims the husband instead warned that the wife will have to undergo FGM because she helped her daughter to escape the cut.

Nyambura says her daughter was rescued by a non governmental organization.

She claims that the husband has severely caused bodily harm during arguments.

Nyambura who is a primary school dropout claims that the husband married her while knowing she had not undergone FGM only to later tell him their daughter was entitled to undergo the cut and the botched mission now turned to her.

Nyambura is calling on government agencies to protect her against the father of her children.

However, Nyambura's husband Eric Gathumbi Kamau who works as a matatu driver, dismissed the claims saying the two have domestic issues beyond her allegations of FGM.
