The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Abdi Guliye has launched an attack on Kenyan politicians for what he described as low intelligence levels.

Speaking during an IEBC press conference on Thursday, July 7, Guliye noted that some of those who seek elective office lacked intelligence.

“We have glorified politicians to the extent that everybody wants to be a politician… and sometimes I ask when we clear candidates they are at the bottom ladder of the IQ levels if you look at their certificates," he stated.

While imploring voters to desist from idolising politicians, the commissioner noted that if Kenyans knew of their (politicians) academic qualifications they would stop worshipping them.

'"I bet if you go to parliament and look at their certificates, most of them have passes or lower Second Class Honours. That category of people are always noisemakers," he stated.

Guliye highlights on use of manual register

Guliye also addressed the manual register concerns issued by political parties.

In his response, he noted that the manual register will only be used when three different KIEMS fails to identify a voter.

"If you turn up and for some reasons we are not able to identify you it says we replace the kit, once we replace the kit it will function normally, if it refuses, we have a third kit and if that is not working that is when we can resort to a manual register," he remarked.
