A hotel manager based in Kisumu was arrested on Saturday morning after he allegedly shot a matatu driver three times following a disagreement between them at 5am.

Daniel Jaoko, the manager at Ray Green Hotel in Nyamasaria, fired three bullets at Peter Otieno Ogallo at Polyview area after a misunderstanding.

Otieno was taken to Avenue Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.

Jaoko, a licensed firearm holder, was taking his girlfriend to a hotel, when he got into a disagreement with Otieno.

According to police, Otieno allegedly refused to give Jaoko way, resulting in a fierce quarrel.

After shooting Otieno thrice in the chest, Jaoko sped off, but later surrendered himself at Nyamasaria Police Station.

Jaoko was found in possession of a gun and 13 bullets. A subsequent search at his house yielded another 42 rounds of ammunition.

Police also arrested his lover, who he was with when the incident happened.

Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu says investigations into the matter have commenced.
