The boyfriend of Hellen Wendy who drowned while live on Facebook has broken his silence and revealed their last conversation.

Alphonse Nyamwaya says the two had a video call moments before she got into the pool.

“I was preparing myself for the afternoon shift when she gave me a video call. She told me she was headed to the swimming pool to relax after completing her morning shift. She inquired whether I had eaten before we said goodbye to each other,” Nyamwaya told a local publication.

This comes even as her family plead for help to bring Hellen's body to the country for burial.

Her father John Nyabuto revealed that Wendy, who was working as a nurse in Toronto, Canada was his firstborn. He said she had travelled to Canada after getting a 10-year study visa through a Green Card lottery.

Nyabuto says he was overcome with emotions as he painfully watched the 24-year-old’s life come to a stop after drowning in a swimming pool.

"She is our firstborn daughter. She travelled to Canada in 2018 and was studying nursing. Wendy was my only hope.

"I struggled to teach her with my wife until she was blessed to travel abroad. She has since been supporting us and was even paying her own school fees.

"We had started gaining stability. I'm now back to square one," Nyabuto said before breaking down.

In the video footage that has since gone viral, Hellen Wendy is seen exchanging pleasantries with friends through her Facebook page moments after she hopped into the pool.

However, moments after she heard screaming for help as she struggled to balance in the deep waters, she kicked and flapped her hands as she tried to get to the surface until she couldn't anymore.

The camera recording the incident remained still as it continuously recorded hours after her death.
