Garissa: Firewood collector brutally killed by g****n who sprayed him with b*****s

Police in Garissa are investigating the execution of a local firewood collector who was shot multiple times at his home.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Osman Abdi Jire was shot dead by unknown persons at his home in Kunasow village.

Area chief Bulla Mzuri reported the death of the firewood collector at the Iftin police station on Saturday morning August 5, 2023.

The chief said the victim had been shot dead by unknown assailants.

Officers from Garissa police station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) personnel led by the OCS proceeded to the said scene of the crime after the chief reported the matter.

The security team found the lifeless body of the firewood collector outside his house with several gunshot wounds.

They suspected that the deceased had been shot from a close range.

The firewood collector's wife told police that they were woken up by a group of four armed men who ordered her husband to get out of the house and immediately started shooting at him severally.

She said that when she got out of her house she found her husband lying in a pool of blood, the gunmen had already left.

Police recovered four spent cartridges believed to be used by an AK47 rifle and one by a G3 gun which were kept as exhibits.

The body of the firewood collector was moved to the Garissa Provincial Hospital morgue for preservation awaiting a post-mortem report.

The motive for the firewood collector's murder is not known. Police have intensified patrols in the area even as DCI probe the death.
