Residents of Motosiet area in Cherangany constituency, Trans Nzoia County are living in fear following frequent attacks by stray dogs.

In an interview with K24 Digital, Erick Wanyonyi said the dogs have killed more than 10 sheep and cows in a span of one month.

"As we are speaking the stray dogs have killed over 10 livestock in this area. We are counting losses as farmers," Wanyonyi said.

Salome Nanjala said she lost a cow that had just calved early this week when the dogs attacked it while grazing.

"This calf is now an orphan. She cannot feed properly because her mother was eaten by four dogs," Nanjala said.

Apart from cows and sheep, the dogs have eaten uncountable hens in the area. Isaac Wafula a poultry farmer said he is almost giving up poultry farming because the dogs have wreaked havoc.

"The dogs are so fierce that trying to attack them is sometimes very futile. I have lost chicken and I'm wondering if I will be able to continue with this venture," Wafula said.

Wafula said they are now worried about the safety of their school-going children, especially the young ones.

"We are wondering what will happen to our young children if they encounter the deadly dogs. Our children can be bitten and infected with rabies" he expressed himself.

They said they have reported the incidences to their village elders but nothing has been done and called on veterinary officers in the county government of Trans Nzoia to kill the stray dogs.

"We are now asking veterinary officers from our county to kill the dogs as soon as possible to avert possible rabies crisis in this area," Nanjala reiterated.

The exact number of the stray dogs is not known but their effect has been felt in the area.
