The family of Joel Kibet Ngetich, who was brutally killed at Sugoi girls secondary school in Uasin Gishu county where he worked as a security officer, is urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to hasten investigations into the heinous murder.

Stella Ngetich, the widow of the deceased, says her husband was brutally murdered on February 22, 2023, by two suspects who were captured by the school's CCTV cameras but since then no one has been arrested in connection with the murder.

“My husband was killed inhumanely on February 22 while performing his duties at the school as a watchman. The school did not inform us on time about the murder and by the time we arrived at the scene his body had been removed and blood stains washed. We demand to know what happened to my husband," the widow lamented.

Michael Kiprotich, the brother of the deceased, said that there could be a conspiracy to defeat justice and has requested DCI to hasten their investigations into the murder.

"We got to the scene of the crime and discovered that the body was already in the police vehicle therefore we couldn't tell how our brother was killed. When I tried to get information from the school on how my brother was killed, we were informed that there was an order from certain officers unknown to us directing that the body of my late brother be removed immediately from the scene of the crime and a clean-up exercise undertaken. What is the school hiding or the DCI officers who are investigating this death?" Kiprotich posed.

"We don't know if any statements have been recorded at the police station by the school regarding the incident. The principal should come out clear and tell us what the school knows about this murder. They are providing contradicting information and something seems not to be right. We want to know what exactly happened," the brother to the deceased added.

Stephen Kipkemboi, the deceased's son, lamented that their family has lost the only breadwinner, adding that they demand compensation for their father who worked at the school for many years as a  security officer and a trustee.

"Our father was the family's breadwinner and my young brothers and sisters are still in school. They will have nobody to pay for their school fees, therefore we want the government to help us because everyone is going to leave and we will remain alone," Stephen said.

Emily Chelimo, another family member of the deceased and staff at the Sugoi girls school, has questioned why police have not made any arrests or questioned the school's staff regarding the heinous murder.

"Up to now nobody has been arrested and the police have not questioned anyone including us the members of the family. This matter seems to be of less importance to them because our brother was just a security officer. We have many cases of insecurity in the president's backyard. We demand answers and justice for Joel,” Emily said.

Joel Kibet was laid to rest at his home in Sugoi on Thursday.

The Uasin Gishu DCI Boss  Peter Kimulwo has confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
