A middle-aged man from Peris Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County was on Thursday, August 21 beaten up by a mob after it was established that he was selling roasted dog meat.

Irate residents stormed the man’s butcher shop at 7pm and found severed dog heads beneath the counter.

Some of the angry residents had eaten nyama choma from his shop earlier in the day. Upon learning that the man had been selling dog meat, they suspected they could have eaten the meat “unfit for consumption”.

Police from Kapsoya post arrived and rescued the suspect from being lynched.

“We have been flocking his shop to buy meat because he is generous. Most times, he sells steak at affordable prices. We have now known that he was selling dog meat to us all that while,” said an aggrieved customer.

The suspect will be arraigned later Friday, August 21.
