The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has ordered the arrest and subsequent arraignment of a supervisor at Eastmatt Supermarket in Kajiado County, who was on Tuesday, November 19, caught on tape physically assaulting a female cashier.

The ODPP has identified the said-supervisor as Ibrahim Taraiya.

“Ibrahim will be arraigned in Kajiado Court, Monday [November 25], for plea-taking on assault charge,” said the ODPP on Twitter on Saturday, November 23.

This comes just a day after Eastmatt said it had suspended the supervisor over the “heinous act”.

“We as Eastmatt condemn and do not stand for such heinous acts of disrespect against any of our staff and more so women. The individual in question acted solely and has been suspended with a report officially being filed with the Kajiado County police (who) are handling the matter accordingly,” said Eastmatt.

In the viral video that has now caused uproar on social media, Taraiya appeared to be playing a supervisory role over the cashier he assaulted before other people in the supermarket restrained him.

Eastmatt said the female cashier has been receiving treatment.
