Molo MP Kuria Kimani has apologised for showing up at a public meeting in Elburgon while drunk.

The Thursday baraza was meant to discuss the increased sale and consumption of illicit brew in the constituency.

The meeting, which was to be chaired by Molo Deputy County Commissioner, David Wanyonyi, however, aborted after the area MP, who was accompanied to the event by tens of unruly youth, showed up drunk.

The youthful lawmaker confirmed the crowd’s fears – that he was drunk – when he staggered to the podium upon invitation.

The first-time legislator was whisked away by his security detail after a section of angry residents threatened to beat him up.

And, on Friday, exactly 24 hours later, the MP graced yet another event within his constituency; this time around, he looked sober, composed and collected.

Kuria attended the launch of a development project at Chesingele Secondary School in Muchorwe.

The MP was received by parents, learners and teachers.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Kuria said he was sorry for attending the Thursday Elburgon public meeting while intoxicated.

“Mistakes happen. And when one realises he or she has erred, it is upon him or her to correct the wrongs. I am to blame for yesterday’s aborted meeting. I am sorry,” said the first-time MP.

Kuria went ahead to mingle, sing and even dance with his hosts.

Throughout the Friday event, he took bottled water only.
