Police in Nakuru are looking for the driver of an NYS lorry of registration plate GKB544G for allegedly colluding with fuel theft suspects to siphon 160 litres of the vehicle’s diesel.

On Wednesday, December 18, the driver is said to have parked the truck near Karonga trading centre, and allowed, among others, a Mr Koskei, to siphon diesel from the lorry.

Two administration police officers, who were on patrol near Karonga trading centre, nabbed the suspects in the act of siphoning fuel from the lorry using pipes and storing them in 30-litre containers, which were to be loaded in a waiting van of registration plate KAW 002H.

Upon seeing the two AP officers -- sergeants Ndolo and Korir --, the fuel-siphoning gang ran away, whereas the driver of the lorry ignited the vehicle and sped off.

Police recovered -- from the scene -- 160 litres of diesel and ten empty 30-litre containers, which were taken to Kamara assistant county commissioner’s office, where they were set on fire.

Mr Koskei is alleged to be connected to police officers in Kuresoi North and often bribes them to free him, or provide him with protection when engaging in the alleged crimes.

The incident was confirmed to K24 Digital by Kuresoi North Deputy County Commissioner Felix Watakila, who said a hunt for the suspects has been launched.
