Disc Jockey Joseph Mwenda alias DJ Joe Mfalme and six other suspects have been detained for 14 days awaiting a probe into the murder of a senior detective.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) had sought to detain the seven for 21 days, but the court granted them 14 days to hold the suspects.

Mfalme, alongside Allan Ochieng, Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mogoiare are accused of assaulting a detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Felix Kelian on March 16, 2024. Kelian is said to have succumbed to the injuries on March 21, 2024.

Magistrate Margaret Murage ruled that DJ Joe Mfalme, Eric Gathua and Simon Wanjiru would be detained at Muthangari police station. On the other hand, Allan Ochieng will be detained at the Kabete police station while police officers Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Rotich and Agnes Mogoi would be detained at Riruta police station.

Mfalme and his co-accused were charged at the Kibra Law Court, where the ODPP termed them as a flight risk if released.

“The sixth and the seventh respondents are also police officers at Kikuyu police station and on the material day they were at the reporting desk and they received the deceased who complained of injuries and also witnessed the deceased urinating blood in the police station toilet,” ODPP stated.

The case will be mentioned on April 8.

DJ Joe Mfalme is reported to have been in a heated altercation with the police officer at Texas Barbeque, an entertainment spot in Kikuyu, on Saturday, March 16.

The incident began when Kelian, a DCIO at Kabete police station, accidentally scratched the DJ's vehicle in the parking lot.

This led to a physical altercation involving Joe Mfalme, his bouncer, photographer, and driver.

The altercation resulted in Kelian sustaining severe abdominal injuries, for which he was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital.

Tragically, Kelian passed away due to his injuries.
