City businessman Dickson Njanja Mararo who was involved in a shootout at Quiver club has been released on Ksh10 million bond.

Milimani magistrate Esther Kimilu also ordered Mararo to be released on an alternative cash bail of Ksh5 million with one contact person.

The businessman was granted bail terms on conditions that he should not interfere in any way with the crucial witnesses expected to testify in the matter either directly or through his proxies.

Magistrate Kimilu further ordered Mararo to deposit his passports with the court.

The court further directed that the businessman to never be issued with another firearm or retain the firearm that was used to commit the offence of attempting to murder three people.

Mararo is the suspect behind the shooting of two police officers and a woman at Quiver Lounge in Kasarani, Nairobi.

He is accused of attempting to cause the death of two officers Fetus Musyoka, Lawrence Muturi and waitress Felistas Nzisa by shooting them at a close range on July 2, 2021.

The magistrate declined to allow the state's request to continue holding the accused in custody to enable them to place three key witnesses be placed under witness protection agency.

The DPP through Evelyne Onunga informed the court that Musyoka is still in ICU in critical condition at a Nairobi hospital since July 3, 2021 and can not talk.

Musyoka's family lawyer MP Dan Maanzo confirmed the said position adding that the hospital bill is currently at Ksh 5.7 million.

He sought to have stringent bond terms issued to the accused person.

Mararo's lawyer Cliff Ombeta however urged the court not to be swayed by the hospital bill being referred to by MP Maanzo.

Ombeta informed the court that his client is willing to abide by all conditions set by the court.

He added that his client once out on bail will be seeking to have the matter settled out of court

The accused has since denied that he attempted to kill the three victims on July 2, 2021 at about 10 pm at Quiver lounge in Kasarani sub-county, Nairobi county.

The court heard that the accused has since surrendered a Glock semi-automatic pistol and 38 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The case will be mentioned on September 30, 2021, for pretrial directions.
