One person has died after he was shot by police during a protest in Kianjokoma Embu North Subcounty in Embu county.

The acting Embu county commander Kimani Wamitungo said there was a confrontation between anti-riot police and demonstrators who are protesting the death of two brothers who were arrested by police for violating curfew hours and later their bodies found in Embu Level 5 mortuary.

The Commander described the shooting as an unfortunate act.

The man died on the spot after he was shot in the head.

Wamitungo said tension is very high in the area over protests which have been happening since yesterday.

There was a confrontation between police and the locals when police started shooting in the air and lobbying tear gas canisters.

"It is very unfortunate that this has happened," the Commander said.

The government deployed the anti-riot police officers to contain the irate members of the public who yesterday set ablaze a police vehicle belonging to Manyatta Police Station.

The locals are accusing the police of causing the death of the two who were arrested on Sunday.

The shooting happened few minutes after Runyenjes member of Parliament Eric Muchangi and nominated MP Cecily Mbarire landed in the area to access the situation.
