The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has launched a probe at Consolata School, Nairobi after an offensive video posted by a pupil went viral.

The investigations will be overseen by children protection unit officers.

On Monday, the school deputy head teacher and senior management held a long-day meeting with the investigators to establish what led the pupil to post a video threatening a schoolmate.

The video clip, featuring a Class Seven pupil, was shared widely on Sunday and elicited sharp reactions from Kenyans, shocked by the vulgar words the boy used.

K24 Digital established the 12-year-old boy was summoned to report to school on Monday afternoon in the company of his guardians or parents.

The girl he allegedly targeted in the video shared on his Instagram account was not in school on Tuesday.

“Our officers are there. We want to know how a young boy came to know about gayism. There might be a case of cyber bullying within the school,” a DCI officer.

The boy later apologised through another video on his Instagram account, but termed the outrage of his utterances an overreaction.

He denied owning a firearm after threatening to shoot the girl.

“I am just a child, I don’t own a gun,” he said in the follow-up video.

The investigators wanted to interview the parents or guardians in a bid to understand the boy’s social interactions and personality.

“The principal is not in school but the deputy has been in a meeting since morning. You can’t talk to her since the meeting might take long,” a receptionist at the school said.
