Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for two criminals captured in a CCTV vandalizing Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) transformers.

In a statement on social media, the two who were armed with spanners were seen wrecking a key supply unit in Makindu by detectives manning the system remotely.

The detectives then alerted police officers based at Makindu and Emali police stations but the thugs managed to run into the nearby bushes escaping arrest.

Following the incident, DCI has consequently cautioned Kenyans against interfering with SGR noting that that the crime attracts charges related to economic sabotage and terrorism

"We wish to inform the public that the railway is a critical national infrastructure under 24/7 surveillance. Vandalizing or tampering its property attracts charges related to Economic Sabotage and Terrorism," the statement read in part.
