A Nairobi court has ordered controversial televangelist David Kariuki Ngare, popularly known as Gakuyo to be detained at Muthaiga police station until Monday.

This is after Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo allowed a plea by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to be allowed to continue holding Gakuyo for more days pending the completion of investigations into the theft of Ksh1 billion from members of his Ekeza Sacco.

"In the interest of justice l find that it appropriate to allow the applicant herein request. I, therefore, order the respondent (Gakuyo) be detained in police cells until Monday when he will be presented in court again for plea taking," Onsarigo ordered.
