Jacktone Odhiambo, the main suspect in the murder of LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo alias Chiloba has dropped his application for bail.

During a mention of the murder case before High Court Judge Richard Nyakundi, Odhiambo’s lawyer Mathai Maina informed the court that they had decided to suspend the bond application pending his trial.

The pre-trial conference and hearing of the murder case have been scheduled for February 23, 2023.

Odhiambo has denied the allegations that he murdered Chiloba between December 31, 2022, and January 3, 2023, at Noble Breeze apartment in the Chebisas area in Moiben sub-county, Uasin Gishu.

State Council Mark Mugun informed the court that all parties, including the suspect, had been supplied with committal bundles for the offence, and that all confiscated material would be presented as evidence in court.

Lawyer Mitullah Gilbert is representing Chiloba’s family in the case.

Chiloba was found murdered and his body was stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Kapseret on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

Investigators are yet to recover Chiloba’s phone, whose data could aid in the arrest of more suspects. The deceased had his eyes gouged out, with preliminary investigations indicating that he died of strangulation.

He was laid to rest at Sergoit, Moiben on January 14, 2023.
