A chief in Tinderet constituency in Nandi county has rescued a needy and stranded pupil who completed his primary education last year but lacked the fees to join secondary school.

Eliud Kiplimo performed well scoring 362 marks in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

The bright boy, who hails from a humble family, could not afford to join form one at Meteitei Boys as his parents could not raise fees.

With such good marks, he was poised to continue his education but faced a significant financial challenge.

Chief Kemboi marshalled the community to help the bright boy, opening a WhatsApp group to contribute to Kiplimo.

The group members managed to raise over Ksh56,000 for school fees, personal items and shopping for the boy.

"The community lauds Kemboi's heart of service to humanity, which later attracted a well-wisher from Mombasa, Eunice Songok, who has promised to pay fees in totality," Simion Bitok Kabirer, a resident, said.

Nandi County education director Harrison Wakaba also lauded the chief's action saying community members were welcomed in helping the needy students even as the government offers bursaries.

"It is called collective responsibility and service to the needy. The chief has really touched the souls of many. We appreciate him," Wakaba said.

Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili was also touched by the administrator's action, saying he will be a motivator to the local administrators in the region

A section of Nandi residents now wants Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki to recognize Kemboi as a dedicated servant as he has helped many needy students in the region.

"This is not the only student Kemboi has assisted. He has been a blessing in this area. The government must promote him for sure," Lydia Chepkemei said.
