The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has revealed the location of the 2022 General Election server.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Chebukati said that the main server will be at the polling station, where all information will be accessible.

"The main server will be at the polling station where the media will be, where the agents of the candidates will be. We are telling everybody that the result is at the polling station.

Chebukati was responding to queries of the 2017 incident where the commission refused to open the servers that contained the presidential election results, despite being ordered by the Supreme Court. As a result, the presidential election was nullified by the Supreme Court, forcing IEBC to hold a repeat election.

Speaking alongside Chebukati, IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan said that in the 2022 General Elections, the commission will open the servers before they are ordered to do so.

"We are not going to wait to be asked to provide (access to the servers), we will open the servers. We learnt from mistakes, we also make mistakes," said Marjan.

Why we did not open the servers in 2017 - Chebukati

According to Chebukati, the reason they did not open the servers in 2017 was due to formality issues that could not allow them to get access in time.

"Giving access to the teams then that were sent to have access to the server... it took time to create access rights because the company then that was involved does a lot of security work for other institutions. The rights were provided at around 3 pm and by that time I think the parties had left," Chebukati said.
