Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has revealed that she still fears for her life, five years after escaping death by a whisker after a fire almost ran over her.

On December 15, 2016, the governor cheated death when a truck crashed her friend and former Kitui Mayor Martha Mwangangi to death while they were leading protests against demolitions of Kiosks in Kitui town.

Charity Ngilu claims that the incident was not an accident and some people were after her life and the late Mwangangi's.

She told a local newspaper that the incident is still fresh in her mind and anytime she walks in the streets of Kitui, she still fears that those who were after their lives are still out to get her.

She claimed that those who are after her life are still free and still working for Kitui County Government.

"I know the people who killed my friend Martha also wanted to kill me and they were part and parcel of this same county government worker that I am now presiding. It is very painful," she told the publication.

Though Ngilu claims that some people are still after her life, the driver of the vehicle that almost killed her has since been arrested and charged with murder.
