Police have arrested a car wash attendant accused of stealing Ksh1 million from a client in Nairobi’s Komarock area.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday, August 20, 2023, in his Namuchila home in Busia, after fleeing the city after the incident.

According to police reports, the owner of the cash took his car for cleaning where the suspect worked as an attendant, before leaving to buy some items in the supermarket.

The owner had left the amount in the car, which was meant for paying workers in Eldoret.

Upon return, the client paid and left without checking the money, before realizing that it was missing the following day when he went to fuel the car.

“The complainant took his car for cleaning within K mall in preparation to travel the following day to Eldoret to pay his workers. He got into Naivas supermarket within the mall to buy some items as the cleaning was going on,” the police report read in part.

“The following day he drove to a nearby total energies petrol station to fuel the car and on checking to remove the cash to pay for the fuel, he discovered it was missing."

The suspect, according to the report, did not report to work the next day. The complainant cut short his journey and reported the matter to Kayole police station where investigations commenced.

When the police visited his house in Kayole, the wife told them that he had travelled to their rural home in Busia.

The suspect was later arrested and Ksh800,000, believed to be part of the stolen money, recovered in his house.

He is currently being held at Bumala police station awaiting transfer to Nairobi.
