A student from Chilchila High School in Kipkelion, Kericho County died on the first day of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams after he collapsed in the examination room.

Confirming the incident, Kericho County Commissioner Kamau Karungo said that the candidate collapsed a while before writing his KCSE English paper.

He was rushed to Fort-Tenan sub-county hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival and the cause of his death is yet to be determined.

The county commissioner, however, noted that they were able to contain the sad news to avoid causing anxiety among other candidates in the examination centre.

The exams are set to end on April 1.
