Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has faulted Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga for meeting Pastor Ezekiel of the New Life Church at his residence shortly after he was released from the police station.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Mwangi expressed dissatisfaction in the meeting between the two noting that the opposition leader was scoring his own goals.

Mwangi also insinuated that Raila had not learnt from his past mistakes.

"Raila Odinga loves scoring his own goals! Life is brutal to those who never learn from their past mistakes," he wrote.

Raila had been accompanied by Ezekiel's lawyer Cliff Ombeta and Kilifi governor Gideon Mung'aro.

Ezekiel had been arrested after several deaths were reported at his church.

He was released on a bond of Ksh3 million on Thursday, May 4, 2023, and ordered to report to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) once a week.

"It has not been demonstrated that the state has not acted in good faith in seeking to have the respondent detained yet again. It still remains unclear how the respondent will interfere with ongoing investigations.

"As such I hereby order his immediate release upon meeting the above conditions and further order that the respondent should stay clear from making any type of statement to his followers in the public related to the subject in the ongoing investigations," Shanzu senior principal magistrate Joe Omido ruled.
