Safaricom’s Bonga Points to start expiring in January 2023

Safaricom has announced expiry time for its loyalty programme dubbed Bonga points effective October 28, 2022.

In the telco’s updated terms and conditions for the loyalty programme, customers will be required to redeem their Bonga Points within three years of accumulation, for all points accumulated since 2019.

“Effective 1st January 2023, all Bonga Points older than three years will expire and will be unavailable for redemption. Your Bonga points will also expire immediately in the event that your line has been deleted as a result inactivity and in accordance with the Terms and Conditions for the use of the Safaricom services,” the telco noted.

Services you can redeem Bonga Points for

The telco allows customers to redeem their Bonga Points for talk-time (minutes), data bundles, MMS, SMS bundles, and merchandise redeemable at select retail outlets, at Lipa na M-Pesa buy goods till number and select pay bill numbers.

The Bonga Points programme, launched in 2017, earns Safaricom customers one Bonga Point for every Ksh10 spent on Safaricom network on voice, mobile data and SMS.

Customers also earn one Bonga Point for every Ksh100 spent on Safaricom network on M-Pesa transactions.
