Musician Kevin Kioko alias Bahati has revealed that he will be contesting for a gubernatorial position in 2027.

Speaking during a performance at Zetech University, Bahati without mentioning what county he will be running as governor, informed the students that he will be enrolling at the school to undertake a degree programme. This he says is part of preparations he has set to successfully contest for the seat.

"Nilianguka MP lakini juu nasimama governor nakuja hapa kufanya degree! Mnataka nikuje Zetech? Wangapi mnataka nikuje Zetech?" he stated amid cheers from the crowd.

This loosely translates to:

"I failed to clinch the MP seat before but now that I am vying as governor, I will enrol here for my degree. Do you guys want me to come to Zetech? How many here want me to join Zetech?"

Bahati loses MP seat

The musician had vied for the Mathare MP seat on a Jubilee party ticket. He finished third in the race to clinch the seat with 8,166 votes.

The seat was won by Anthony Oluoch of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party after he garnered 28,098 votes.

Oluoch was trailed by Brian Ojiwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party after he garnered 16,912 votes.

Bahati addressed his loss in the parliamentary contest noting that he was aware that he would be rigged out.

"So I did not win, but I knew they would steal my votes, but I tried," Bahati said.

While speaking about his defeat, the 'Mama' hitmaker questioned why politicians from the Kamba community always accepted to step aside for others.

"In the past, Mike Sonko was told to step aside, Kalonzo was asked to step aside and Bahati was also told to step aside," he lamented.

The singer also claimed that he was offered a job after his defeat but he refused.

"I was offered a job by the party that lost in the election (Azimio), but I refused," Bahati stated.
