Sixty-eight students and five teachers at Bahati Girls Secondary School in Nakuru County have tested positive for coronavirus.

Another 115 students have been quarantined after having interacted with the infected colleagues, Nakuru Health minister, Dr. Kariuki Gichuki, revealed on Thursday.

Dr. Gichuki said the county took quick action after one student was hospitalised having developing COVID-19 complications.

"She developed some complications and is being attended to at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital COVID-19 Isolation and Management Centre," said the Nakuru health boss.

"A medical team is monitoring the condition of the students in isolation and quarantine at the school," he added.

Gichuki said that the county health department has also been conducting COVID-19 prevention and management for schools.

"We wish to assure the public that the Health Department is monitoring the COVID-19 situation across Nakuru County," he said.
