Police in Kisumu have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly defiling 4 minors.
The suspect identified as Joel Etale alias Omwami was arrested by Kondele police officers in Manyatta area.
It was reported that the serial defiler has been threatening the minors with a kitchen knife if they dare report him.
Confirming the incident, Kondele police station OCS Peter Kirui told K24 Digital that the perpetrator has been repeatedly defiling the minors for a period of time now.
The police boss said that the minors are children aged between 7-9 and grade two pupils at Kosawo Primary School in Kisumu.
"More parents are still reporting statements with the police," he said.
He also condemned the act terming it as an evil act given that the perpetrator is multiple times older than the children.
"It is very wrong for a 53-year-old man to be defiling minors who look like his grandchildren. I want to condemn it strongly and warn anyone who is thinking of doing the act. As of now, we are going to take action to ensure that the children get the justice they deserve," he said.
He added that the suspect is being detained at Kondele police station awaiting to be arraigned before Winam law courts on Thursday for plea taking.
Kirui said Omwami is going to be charged with defilement and committing an incident act with a child contrary to the law.
According to Francis Aluko who works at Manyatta chief's camp, they got information about the man defiling minors in the area and they decided to go for him where they found him sleeping.
Upon interrogating the man, Aluko agreed that indeed he has been defiling the minors for a period of time now.
He also confessed to giving them money after engaging them in the indecent act.
He said that the minors have been going to them claiming that they have been suffering at their homes and sometimes would go without eating.
According to a parent whose daughter is a victim, she says she started noticing her daughter going back home late as opposed to before when she asked her class teacher who informed her of what has been going on.
"It was her class teacher who informed me that my daughter and three others have been going to school with a lot of money and when asked, they said they got the money from their uncle Omwami who has so far been arrested," she said.
On her side, one of the minors who were defiled admitted that the perpetrator has been sleeping with the four of them at ago in one bed.
"He has been threatening us with a kitchen knife not to tell our parents and also giving us money," she said.
