Five people have been reported dead and five others sustained injuries following a road crash at Amabuko along Kisii-Sotik road after a Matatu hit a trailer on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Confirming the incident, Keroka Officer Command Police Division (OCPD) Robert Ndambiri said two children and three adults were among the dead.

He said the deceased's bodies have been taken to the Gucha morgue in Keroka.

"Those who were injured were taken to Keroka sub-county hospital," Ndambiri said.

Ndambiri stated that the matatu driver was avoiding hitting a motorbike before the accident took place.

He at the same time, he has advised motorists to drive at a slow speed as the road is currently slippery due to ongoing rain in order to avoid accidents.

The carnage comes barely two weeks after Kisii County Governor Simba Arati urged the national government to expand the road in a bid to curb accidents.

Arati told president William Ruto, who toured the area and commissioned the Kegati water project and treatment plan that the contractor expanding it was doing shoddy work and wanted him replaced.
