A 23-year-old man, identified as Erick Munene Murithi, was stabbed to death on Saturday, October 22, 2022, night by Emmanuel Mutugi Mutwiri, aged 21, at Samson Corner, Ngeru Village, in Maara Sub-County.
According to Nkangani sub-location assistant chief Mercy Mwenda, a scuffle between the two ensued after a confrontation in one of the hotels in the area, with the brawl leading to the stabbing outside the hotel.
"At around 11 PM, I was called and informed of a stabbing incident at Samson Corner in Ngeru Village. I confirmed that Erick Munene Murithi had been stabbed to death by Emmanuel Mutugi Mutwiri outside a hotel. We called officers from Maara DCI and Ntumu Police Station, who took the body away," she said.
According to her, the reasons for the stabbing remain unclear, confirming that investigations were underway to determine what would have led to the heinous act.
The assistant chief, in her remarks, advised residents against taking the law into their own hands, reassuring them that proper channels were in place to solve conflicts amicably.
"I ask residents to discuss conflicts and related issues by speaking out and finding solutions. Visit our offices anytime. We are ready to offer our help", she said.
The administrator noted, with concern, the rising number of murder and suicide cases in the county.
The deceased's body was moved to Chuka Level 4 Hospital while the suspect remains at large.
On October 3, a 55-year-old woman identified as Catherine Gatiria committed suicide by hanging herself using a rope on a mango tree near her house in Kiriani, Maara Sub-County.
On October 1, a 42-year-old man identified as Nicholas Mwiti Nthiga was arrested after he was accused of killing Geofrey Muriungi Makara, aged 34, in Ntabuta Village, Matakiri Location of Nkondi Ward.
