A family in South Kinangop is mourning the death of their 20-year-old daughter whose body was discovered in Kariko area of Kinale forest in Lari Constituency, Kiambu county.

Confirming the incident, Lari sub-county police commander Adamson Furaha noted that the deceased might have been raped and killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the forest.

At the time of the discovery, the young woman was half-naked and some of her clothes were missing.

The police commander assured the family of the victims that investigations have been launched and those involved will face consequences.

"We have started investigations to establish what happened, whether she was raped, how she was killed and how the body was brought to the area. Investigations will shed more light," he stated.

The deceased's body was discovered by residents who alerted the police and other members of the public.

“…we were walking to the stage along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway when we spotted the body," one Anne Wanja, a resident told a local publication.

The family of the victim led by her uncle, Paul Githua, told police that the young lady went missing two weeks ago.

At the time, the family which resides at Kenton Village near Flyover in South Kinangop sent her to buy sugar from a local shop.

"She was given Ksh200 to buy sugar. Today, we were shocked to learn that there was a girl who had been found killed and it was her. The family sent me to come and check," Githua told a local publication.

"I have identified her. She appears to have been raped since she was half naked and some clothes were missing" he added.

The family has asked police to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the Naivasha sub-county mortuary.
