Two police officers were killed after their vehicle drove over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Dadaab-Garissa main supply route in Hagarbul area, Garissa county, on Friday, February 24, 2023.
While confirming the incident, North Eastern regional police commander George Seda noted that four officers were onboard when the vehicle hit the explosive device.
However, Seda said authorities only found two bodies while the others remain missing.

He further assured residents that a response team has been dispatched to the scene to find the missing bodies.
Meanwhile, the other bodies were moved to a nearby morgue.

The latest comes barely days after several officers were confirmed dead after their vehicle hit an IED at Dadaab-Garissa road.
The officers were heading to Garissa at the time of the incident.
"We have reports of a police vehicle hit by an explosive but I am yet to know the exact number of casualties," Dadaab Deputy County Commissioner Kipkiruii Sile, who confirmed the incident, told a local publication.
On January 11, 2023, four engineers attached to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) died after their vehicle hit an IED at Hailey, Bura East Sub-County, Garissa.
The quartet was part of a convoy that had been dispatched to access the Lamu Port-Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET).
"A convoy of KeNHA engineers in three vehicles who were on routine assessment of the LAPSSET Road were attacked by suspected al Shabaab elements who had placed an IED on the Old Lapsset Road which exploded destroying the first vehicle," a statement by KeNHA read in parts.
Garissa County Commissioner Boaz Cheruitich who confirmed the incident assured residents that the Security Committee had deployed a contingent of police officers to hunt down the suspects and bring them to book.
“We want to appeal to the local people around that area to be calm as we pursue the criminals. The government will continue with the sustained operation to flush them out. We also want to assure the public that we will arrest them to face the law and bring calm back in the area,” Cherutich said on Wednesday, January 11.
